A fighter who uses his bonus feats to pick up maneuvers is generally going to be weaker than a warblade (in many ways, the warblade is intended to replace the fighter, which is considerably weaker than the other PHB classes unless built just right). Generally speaking, if you want to use the maneuvers from Tome of Battle, you should make a character of one of the maneuver-using classes. You spend a full-round action to recover one maneuver. When you use a maneuver, it's gone either until the combat ends or until you take a full round action to recover it. These are the maneuvers you have access to without 5 minutes of meditation or a feat. Note that both Martial Study and Martial Stance can be selected with fighter bonus feats. You start combat with a number of maneuvers readied. You can also take Martial Stance, which lets you learn any stance you meet the requirements for there's no limit on how many times you can take it, but you won't meet the requirements for very many stances with just 3 maneuvers. That said, they're still Tier 3, if a bit lower in the tier. They're substantially better than T4, but often lack in noncombat situations. In addition, these maneuvers will only have an initiator level of half your character level, and you'll have no way to recharge them during a fight. Between the combat power of maneuvers, access to maneuvers useful outside of combat, and skills, they're a pretty clear Tier 3. You can only take it three times, however, so without taking levels in swordsage, warblade, or crusader, you can only ever have 3 maneuvers known. Other classes can learn maneuvers by taking the Martial Study feat (ToB p31-32), which teaches you a new martial maneuver each time you take it. The crusader, warblade, and swordsage are also the only classes who gain a mechanic for recharging their maneuvers during a fight. The classes presented in Tome of Battle learn maneuvers automatically as they gain levels, but no other class does. Pump Charisma, use Marshal amd Bellflower Tattoo to transfer Charisma Bonus to Dex, use stuff like Slippers of Battle Dancing and Gauntlets of Heartfelt Blows in addition to typical buffs. Ill post my current setup and how I plan to continue. Re: Creating a Samurai with Warblade 3.5 Crusader or Warblade X/Iaijutsu Master 8/Marshal 1/Tattoed Monk 1/Sneak Attack Fighter Y. Ive read many threads on the subject and just wanted to get everyones opinion on my planned build. Im currently in a 3.5 edition game playing a level 3 human warblade starting from level 1. The class will have access to a greater selection of maneuvers then a warblade. No, but you have to learn maneuvers to be able to use them. Hello all, long time lurker first time posting. It will be much harder to recover maneuvers without the Adaptive Style feat, but even so it still will take a full-round action doing nothing else. The maneuver recovery mechanic of the warblade is replaced by the recovery mechanic of the swordsage. Keep the number of warblade stances the same. And IIRC the Revenant Blade's Handbook list a Ranger 2/Warblade 3/Revenant Blade 5/Eternal Blade build. Meh, two levels of ranger fix the skill requirements and TWF. The number of warblade maneuvers known, and maneuvers readied are replaced with the numbers of the sword sage. Re: Elfin's Masters of the Sword: A Warblade's Handbook. Everything else (HD, skills, features, saves, etc.) stays the same as a warblade, except the following: Keep access to the same five warblade schools. The 9 Epic Martial Discipline Feats, by KrimmBlackleaf. The hypothesis: replacing the maneuver mechanics of a Warblade with a Swordsage. Epic Martial Adept Progressions (Crusader, Swordsage, Warblade) and Epic martial adept feats by KrimmBlackleaf. You can find details of the conversation here: I am aware, that the issue might be inefficient builds of other characters, but I wanted to focus on this individual mechanical switch. However, I added some Dragon mag classes. I built this list off of Hadessnipers list from here. However, there are usually missing entries or unnecessary inclusions, like multiple fighters at the WotC archives. The background: my current warblade is too powerful compared to the rest of my party. Many times Ive looked for a list of base classes that includes all of 3.5s offerings.
